Discovering Courage I Didn’t Know I Had
What’s something you’ve done that you never thought you could?
There was a time when I doubted whether I could share my thoughts openly with people beyond the places and circles I knew. Writing felt personal, and allowing others to read those words required a different kind of courage.
I have always believed that words can bring people closer, but believing in something and taking a step toward it are not quite the same. It is possible to have something to say and still wonder whether anyone will understand.
What surprised me was not one dramatic moment. It was the gradual discovery that I could keep learning, keep writing, and become more comfortable sharing my perspective. Sometimes courage arrives quietly, through small decisions we make again and again.
Moving between Vietnamese and Australian cultural experiences has also reminded me that understanding does not always come easily. Language, customs, and expectations can differ. I cannot always find the perfect words, but I can listen, ask questions, and try again.
I do not think confidence means having no doubts. For me, it means accepting that I may be uncertain and still choosing to take a thoughtful step forward.
Looking back, I appreciate the encouragement of others and the opportunities to learn from people with different experiences. None of us grows entirely alone.
Perhaps that is something I once underestimated: my ability to begin before I felt completely ready. I am still learning, and I hope I always will be.
If you are standing at the beginning of something unfamiliar, I hope you will give yourself permission to start small. You may discover possibilities you could not see from where you began.
A question for you
What is something you once doubted you could do, but eventually found the courage to try?
